Female infertility refers to situations where the reason for a couple's inability to have children is due to the female. The most common causes for female infertility include:

Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome

In this condition, ovaries produce high amounts of androgen, leading to elevated LH levels and depressed FSH levels, which in turn prevents follicles from producing mature eggs.

Problems with the uterus

The most common are endometriosis and endometrial cysts. Most of the times surgery is needed to treat such conditions.

Genetic

A woman has two X chromosomes. When one of the X chromosomes is defective, it may affect ovarian functions. In addition, the genetic material carried by the egg may be defective, which also causes infertility.

Blocked Fallopian tube

Eggs are unable to reach Fallopian tube from the ovary. As such, they are unable to meet the sperms and become fertilized.

Polycystic Ovary Symdrome (PCOS)

Women with PCOS typically have high levels of androgens (male hormones) and have many cysts inside their ovaries. For these women, the ovaries are unable to make mature eggs, Typically treatments include the use of fertility medication.

Immune system problems

This will cause repeated miscarriages.

Other causes are possible as well. Please note that sometimes no reason can be found.
